New Orleans Mardi Gras Or Sydney Which Is Bigger

Mardi Gras is considered by some to be the ultimate party. It has its roots in Carnival, a European celebration that always happens before lent. But Mardi Gras as people understand it in the United States takes place in New Orleans. It is a big festival and one that is concerned with parades, eating, drinking, and pretty much letting loose. It's closely related European cousin, Carnivale, also serves the same purpose as Mardi Gras. But somehow, the celebrations tend to be a little more subdued.

Do you wish to go to Mardi Gras? Then it is important to start planning it as far in advance as possible. It is such a busy and popular celebration for the city of New Orleans, if you wait too long, you may not find a place to stay. Or if you can find a place to stay, it would be too expensive. Of course, you could always find people to stay with in the city but that can be a little bit awkward and is not exactly comfortable. And, you could always sleep in your car. But the ideal situation is to book your Mardi Gras trip so it won't have to resort to that.

Keep in mind that it always appears the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the official beginning of Lent for the Catholic faith. Lent is a time of spiritual renewal and of limiting excuses for partying. That is why Mardi Gras takes place at that time. To the people who developed it, it was one final excuse to let loose before getting serious. That is why it looks to some that people are overdoing it.

The New Orleans celebration of Mardi Gras is known throughout the world and is called "the greatest show on earth". To some people, this means going out and drinking and partying. But to some, as is the case with families who have small children, it can also be a family day. The partying atmosphere exists, but it is played up in the media because it is something that is memorable about the celebration. There are some traditions and celebrations that have to do with Mardi Gras. Traditional foods, traditional atmosphere. Mardi Gras is fun and a good time for everyone involved.
