Great Things to do in New Orleans
Visiting New Orleans Louisiana can be one of those vacations you need a vacation from, when you get back but it is certainly worth it. The food and drink alone makes New Orleans a favorite among travelers and certainly provides for a trip to remember. Bring the family or get away with the boys or girls and this city has something for everyone.
When in New Orleans, one of the highlights to see is the historic French Quarter. With over 300 restaurants in the French Quarter, you will find plenty of wonderful cuisine, the atmosphere New Orleans is famous for, and shopping like nowhere else. When you are ready to relax and listen to some music, be sure to visit Bourbon Street known for its incredible mob packed Mardi Gras and no shame tourists. However off peak (non Mardi Gras time) it is a great place to kick back and enjoy the true Creole culture.
However, don't leave the city without taking the streetcar tour of the Garden District which is the oldest continuously operating streetcar in the country. The route takes you up St. Charles Avenue, past some of the grandest homes in the south, past Tulane and Loyola Universities, and up the river bend to Carrollton. You can add Cajun dancing, Horse Carriages and Riverboats rides and stay busy taking in all the sites for days.
For a great place to slow down for a little while, check out Faulkner House Books located in the French Quarter townhouse where William Faulkner lived while he wrote his first novel. This quaint place is just the place to sip a cup of java and take in the old town feel. Best of all this place is seldom crowded.
Another item on the agenda could be the nighttime graveyard tour. Departing from the French Quarter, get a midnight candlelight tour of the oldest and most haunted graveyard in Louisiana. This tour is especially popular around Halloween. Another interesting tour is the swamp bayou tour. Go by boat through the bogs of the bayou and come face to face with alligators and spectacular wildlife. Witness birds up close and see gators get fed up close by Bayou Billy himself. An optional part of the tour is a fast fan boat ride through the deltas and rivers of the bayou if you like. A trip not for the faint hearted or scared.
Last but not least, you can also visit the New Orleans Aquarium. See spectacular fish and sea life and get a break from the hot humid weather. The aquarium is a great place to visit mid day especially during the summer.
As you can see New Orleans has a ton to offer as long as you know where to find it. These are just some of the many activities you can partake in. Enjoy the festivities above or choose your own adventure, but be sure to take a trip to the Deep South and visit New Orleans today.

New Orleans - Isn't it time to stop whining and start progressing?
A vast percentage of New Orleans is still not suitable for dwelling. Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida have triumphed since last years storms, and New Orleans is still whining and complaining. Who thinks that it is time for New Orleans to stop whining about government assistance and start getting out and doing some work themselves? You can be a high-roller right now in casinos that were wiped out last year, and New Orleans is still uninhabitable. Is New Orleans just out to suck as much money as they can out of the government? Is it time for New Orleans to do some hard work? Mississippi, Alabama and Florida did not wait for the government, they were up and going as soon as possible... Who believes it is time for New Orleans to stop whining? You don't hear of anything else in Louisiana, only New Orleans, thoughts, comments, ideas, etc.
I live in Alabama, and could not get out of my driveway for a week after hurricane Ivan. We did not get any assistance. Also note that Mississippi was "hit hardest." New Orleans suffered flood damage, not hurricane damage. Also, I am not going to help anyone who will not help themselves. No one helped me and my family cut trees for days on end just to have a route of travel. No one gave us money to repair our home. I have been there, and I do know what it is like.
Also, hurricane season begins in less than one week...how do you feel about this... for instance New Orleans falls victim again, they have not attempted to repair from Katrina, do you think the government and volunteers should jump to assist them since they have put forth minimal effort to repair since Katrina? How do you feel if the '06 season is worse than '04 and '05? New Orleans spent millions on Mardi Gras, when the city isn't suitable for living? Isn't there a priority conflict?
Poverty this, poverty that... Is it my fault or even the governments that people live in poverty? Read the comment about the people repairing their own home, that person does not make any comment that they waited on a trailer from FEMA, or assistance... Is it really a problem for people to get out at help themselves? If you read that answer, there is a prime example of doing it yourself, while others are still complaining that they have not gotten assistance. I have helped in hurricane recovery, and the homeowners were participating in the effort. In New Orleans, they are still relocated with government assistance, and FEMA Mastercards while others, like the answerer below have managed to "do it themselves."

I'm going to New Orleans in 1 week! Please advise!?
I'm going to be going to New Orleans to do the tourist thing starting on the 31st, and coming back the 4th. I'm looking for things to do.
I'm 19, and have never been before. I know that I'm going to the art museum, the zoo, aquarium, and the WW2 museum, but I'm not sure what else to do with my time. Especially at night, since I'm not 21 and I'm not really into the club scene.
I've looked on the main sites about New Orleans, and the ones specifically for tourists, but I can't seem to find anything besides what I mentioned.
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should see and do (money is no object) while I'm there?
Thanks mucho!
